The creative process is so engaging for me because it feels like a mini journey each time. It is where ideas are tested and proven. The concepts take on flesh because people are working together to bring them to life.
This process involves people–a team of two or twenty. Human connection is what gives a project life. In a collaborative environment, 1 + 1 = 3. There is something powerful that occurs when people come together and work towards the same end: magic. My approach is to bring ideas to the creative process and engage with a team to bring them to their full potential.
I have come to believe that a great teacher is a great artist and that there are as few as there are any other great artists. Teaching might even be the greatest of the arts since the medium is the human mind and spirit.
The greatest human bond takes place at the moment of teaching. I believe it is our moral obligation to share our knowledge and experience with others. It is also one of my joys. The traditions of our fathers were passed through stories and deliberate exchange. I seek to continue this tradition through my stories, my work and formal teaching opportunities.
I have taught courses in photography, design and motion graphics and every moment has been filled with revelations about the human spirit’s need to progress. The ‘light’ that turns on in the eyes is brilliant and reflects a fire from within. I respect my students for their commitment to improve their situations by improving their minds and increasing their skills. They push themselves onto a higher plane of creative power and integrity. They are making themselves into great storytellers. I intend to spend the rest of my life telling stories – to family, to loved ones and to anyone who has a willing heart.
My end game? I don’t see an end, only a horizon. I will chase the light coming from that horizon for the rest of my days and I invite you to come along.
